The Regional Fishing Map (documenting watercourses classified in "areas", based on the fish species found there as well as on the environmental features) denotes the section of the Nera River, overlying the town of Terni, as a Superior Area for Trout. The course of the Nera River is marked by clear cold-flowing water set in an environment of notable naturalistic interest.

La Carta Ittica Regionale (documento in cui i corsi d'acqua vengono classificati in "zone", sulla base delle specie ittiche presenti e sulle caratteristiche ambientali) attribuisce al tratto fluviale del fiume Nera, sopra la città di Terni, la denominazione di zona superiore della trota, caratterizzata da acque di elevato pregio e ambienti di rilevante interesse naturalistico.
