The Spain (died in 1529 in Spoleto, probably following an epidemic of plague), was a very active painter and appreciated in central Italy. His name was Giovanni di Pietro, but he was known as Spain because he was born in Spain.
After Raphael, he was the principal pupil of Perugino, and the style of the great Maestro is very well recognized in his paintings.

This post presents a "Madonna with Child, holy monk and Saint Catherine of Siena" (oil on panel; 47 × 35 cm) that Spain painted around 1500 for the private devotion of an unknown client.

The usual mysterious way of the art market have taken her to the United States of America and, transferred to canvas, is now kept in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
A painting by the same author with a system very similar to the one described above is kept in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin (Ireland)

Lo Spagna (morto nel 1529 a Spoleto, probabilmente in seguito ad una epidemia di peste), è stato un pittore molto attivo ed apprezzato nell'Italia centrale. Il suo nome era Giovanni di Pietro, ma era conosciuto come Lo Spagna perché era nato in Spagna.
Dopo Raffaello, fu l’allievo principale del Perugino, e lo stile del grande Maestro si riconosce molto bene nei suoi dipinti.

In questo post si presenta una “Madonna con Bambino, santo monaco e Santa Caterina da Siena“ (olio su tavola; cm 47 × 35) che Lo Spagna ha dipinto intorno al 1500 per la devozione privata di un ignoto committente.

Le solite misteriose vie del mercato dell'arte l'hanno portata negli Stati Uniti d'America e, trasferita su tela, è oggi conservata nel Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Un dipinto dello stesso autore e con un impianto molto simile a quello sopra descritto si trova custodito nella National Gallery of Ireland di Dublino (Irlanda)
