> The Park of Trasimeno was set up according to regional law no. 9 of 3 March 1995, with the aim of protecting and promoting an area of high naturalistic, historical and artistic value like that of Lake Trasimeno and the municipalities in its district.

The Park of Trasimeno is the largest of the Umbrian regional parks. The territory extends along the perimeter of the Lake and includes three islands: the Isola Polvese island is the largest and is owned by the Province of Perugia and used as a centre for teaching and environmental studies; the Isola Maggiore island is the second largest, in which there is a pretty fishing village, dating back to 5th century; the Isola Minore island is privately owned.

The naturalistic appearance of the Park is that of a wetland area of great importance. The Lake, nestling amidst the rolling hills of Umbria, has always been an important area for the wintering and reproduction of aquatic birdlife, as well as a perfect habitat in which the various species of fish can live and reproduce.
The coastal towns, the small fishing villages, the manual cutting-down of the reeds all give these places a “timeless” dimension. The real characters of the Trasimeno area are the fishermen, who have always brought the lake to life and continue to do so with their special boats, challenging even the most terrible storms. They are the true guardians of the secrets of this naturalistic treasure. Their dedication to these waters, which is generally handed down from father to son, and their knowledge of lunar phases makes these figures legendary or, at least, a special part of the natural environment of the lake. You can still enjoy watching the fishermen intent on repairing nets and cutting down the reed thicket. The Park is managed by a specific Consortium.

> Il Parco del Trasimeno è stato istituito con la legge regionale n. 9 del 3 marzo 1995, con l'obiettivo di proteggere e valorizzare un'area di altissimo valore naturalistico e storico-artistico quale quella del Lago Trasimeno e dei comuni del suo comprensorio.

Il Parco del Trasimeno è il più grande dei parchi regionali umbri. Il territorio si estende lungo il perimetro del lago e comprende tre isole: l’Isola Polvese, la più estesa, di proprietà della Provincia di Perugia, che è utilizzata come centro didattico e di studio ambientale; l’Isola Maggiore, la seconda in ordine di grandezza, in cui è presente un grazioso borgo di pescatori risalente al ’400; l’Isola Minore, di proprietà privata.

L’aspetto naturalistico del Parco è quello di una zona umida di grandissima importanza. Il lago, incastonato tra le dolci colline umbre ha, da sempre, rappresentato per l’avifauna acquatica un’importante area di svernamento, sosta e riproduzione, e per le specie ittiche un habitat perfetto per vivere e riprodursi.
I centri rivieraschi, i piccoli borghi di pescatori, lo sfalcio dei canneti ancora effettuato a mano, danno una dimensione "al di fuori del tempo" di questi luoghi. I pescatori, i veri personaggi del Trasimeno, che da sempre hanno animato ed animano solcando con le loro particolari barche le acque del lago, sfidando anche le più terribili burrasche, sono i veri custodi dei segreti di questo particolare scrigno naturalistico. La loro dedizione per queste acque, generalmente tramandata da padre in figlio, la loro conoscenza delle fasi lunari, hanno sempre reso queste figure mitiche o comunque particolarmente inserite nel contesto naturale lacustre.
E' possibile godere ancora della presenza di personaggi intenti nel riparare le reti e sfalciare il canneto. Il Parco è gestito da uno specifico Consorzio.
