A small conifer forest in the shape of Italy, right on the slopes of Poggio di Croce. But what does it represent? In 1961 the Mountain Festival was held in Castelluccio by the will of the Minister Mariano Rumor, owner at the time of the Ministry of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies. The festival, which was organized by the State Forestry Corps, was held on the Pian Grande.
Near Poggio di Croce, right on the Piana, a small chapel was built and conifers were planted on the slopes of the mountain, drawing the profile of Italy, in memory of the first centenary of the unity of the nation.
The seedlings of conifers, initially, took root with difficulty, while today the wood in the shape of Italy has become a feature of the Panorama of Castelluccio, which makes it even more fascinating.

Un piccolo bosco di conifere a forma d’Italia, proprio sulle pendici di Poggio di Croce. Ma cosa rappresenta ? Nel 1961 si tenne a Castelluccio la Festa della Montagna per volontà del ministro Mariano Rumor, titolare all'epoca del Ministero delle politiche agricole alimentari e forestali. La festa, che venne organizzata dal Corpo Forestale dello Stato, si tenne sul Pian Grande.
A ridosso di Poggio di Croce, proprio sulla Piana, venne costruita una piccola cappella e sulle pendici della montagna furono piantate le conifere disegnando il profilo dell’Italia, in ricordo del primo centenario dell’unità della Nazione.

Le piantine di conifere, inizialmente, attecchirono con fatica, mentre oggi il bosco a forma d’Italia è diventato una caratteristica del Panorama di Castelluccio, che lo rende ancora più affascinante.
