"Mary with the Child and Saints Peter, John the Evangelist, John the Baptist and Paul" is a large painting on wood (186 x 172 cm) executed by Perugino in 1493 (an inscription on the pedestal indicates both the author and the aforementioned date) .
The work was taken over for the first time in 1646 in the Collection of Cardinal Giovan Carlo de 'Medici. Giovan Carlo was endowed with remarkable intelligence and aesthetic taste, which led him to take an interest in art in general, voraciously collecting paintings, sculptures and everything that could be bought.
The actual birth of a general collection of the Uffizi (and of the Palatine Gallery) is due precisely to his intervention.
The precious work, from 1796, is kept in the "Kunsthistorisches Museum" of Vienna (Austria).

“Maria con il Bambino ed i santi Pietro, Giovanni Evangelista, Giovanni Battista e Paolo” è un grande dipinto su tavola (186 x 172 cm) eseguito dal Perugino nel 1493 (una iscrizione sul piedistallo indica sia l'autore che la data suddetta). L'opera è stata rilevata per la prima volta nel 1646 nella Collezione del Cardinale Giovan Carlo de' Medici. Giovan Carlo era dotato di spiccata intelligenza e gusto estetico, che lo portarono a interessarsi dell'arte in genere, collezionando voracemente quadri, sculture e tutto ciò che di bello si poteva acquistare. La vera e propria nascita di una collezione generale degli Uffizi (e della Galleria Palatina) si deve proprio al suo intervento. La nostra preziosa opera, dal 1796, è custodita nel “Kunsthistorisches Museum” di Vienna (Austria).
