Montepetriolo is a fraction of 74 inhabitants in the municipality of Perugia (PG).
Located on the border with the territories of the municipalities of Marsciano and Piegaro, 18 km SW of Perugia, the town develops on a small hill at a height of 374 m s.l.m. that rises on the valley of Nestore, and counts just 74 residents (Istat data, 2001), the montepetriolesi.
The hill of Monte Croce, nearby, is home to one of the rare woods of farnetto, a species of oak not very common in Italy and in Europe.
The first certain records date back to the 12th century, when the castrum montis petrioli is first mentioned in the Imperial Diploma of Federico Barbarossa (1163) and then in the "Codice di Cencio Camerlengo" (1193). Further evidence can be found in the following century, around 1260, when we learn that it was part of the territories (countryside) of the Porta S. Susanna district of Perugia. Finally, in the 14th century, it passed definitively to the countryside of Porta Eburnea.

Situato al confine con i territori dei comuni di Marsciano e di Piegaro, a 18 km a SW di Perugia, il paese si sviluppa su un piccolo colle all'altezza di 374 m s.l.m. che sorge sulla valle del Nestore, e conta appena 74 residenti (dati Istat, 2001), i montepetriolesi.
Il colle di Monte Croce, nelle vicinanze, ospita uno dei rari boschi di farnetto, una specie di quercia poco diffusa in Italia ed in Europa.
Le prime notizie certe risalgono al XII secolo, quando il castrum montis petrioli viene citato dapprima nel Diploma Imperiale di Federico Barbarossa (1163) e poi nel "Codice di Cencio Camerlengo" (1193). Ulteriori testimonianze si ritrovano nel secolo successivo, intorno al 1260, quando si apprende che esso faceva parte dei territori (contado) del quartiere perugino di Porta S. Susanna. Infine, nel XIV secolo, esso passò definitivamente al contado di Porta Eburnea.
