> In this fresco is clearly represented the very important role for the medieval man of the circle of walls, with his task of embracing and delimiting what is city from what is not, separating it clearly from the outside and from those who cannot enjoy it of citizenship rights.

Just at the time of this painting we know that the walls of Perugia reached is maximum extension, doubling, with its six kilometers, that of the imposing Etruscan walls.
The expansion took place in phases: in 1276 there was the removal of the wooden doors that separated, in particular the night-time closure, the old city from the medieval quarters, the villages.
The statute of 1279 bears witness to the existence of a new wall that also included these villages which, in fact, in a municipal act of 1306, are now considered part of the civitas.

> In questo affresco è chiaramente rappresentato il ruolo importantissimo per l'uomo del Medioevo della cerchia muraria, con il suo compito di abbracciare e delimitare ciò che è città da ciò che non lo è, separandola nettamente dall'esterno e da chi non può godere dei diritti di cittadinanza.

Proprio all'epoca di questo dipinto sappiamo che la cinta muraria di Perugia raggiunse la sua massima estensione raddoppiando, con i suoi sei chilometri, quella delle imponenti mura etrusche.
L'ampliamento avvenne per fasi: nel 1276 ci fu la rimozione delle porte di legno che separavano, in particolare con la chiusura notturna, la città vecchia dai quartieri medievali, i borghi.
Nello statuto del 1279 è attestata l'esistenza di una nuova cinta muraria che comprendeva anche questi borghi che infatti, in un atto comunale del 1306, vengono ormai considerati parte della civitas.
