Morcicchia, isolated from the other villages and reached by a dirt road, was called up to 1490 or even Moricicla and Moricicula. The origin of the name is unclear, the name, according to the elderly s refers to “castle by the circular walls”, even if the primitive settlement plan does not have the circular pattern.

Wrapped mostly by silence and an atmosphere of yesteryear, offers the visitor facilities built in pink and white local stone, tiny lanes and the S. Silvestro church, dating from the fourteenth century., With a bell tower, testimony to its more ancient origin. In the Middle Ages was to be functioning the municipal building, partially visible on the north side of the castle.

Il castello, isolato rispetto agli altri borghi e raggiungibile grazie ad una strada sterrata, fu chiamata fino al 1490 anche Moricicla o Moricicula. L’origine del nome non è chiara, il toponimo, secondo gli anziani s riferisce a “castello dalle mura circolari”, anche se la primitiva pianta dell’insediamento non ha l’andamento circolare.

Avvolto quasi sempre dal silenzio e da un’atmosfera di altri tempi, offre al visitatore strutture costruite in pietra locale bianca e rosa, minuscoli vicoli e la chiesa di S. Silvestro, risalente al XIV sec., con campanile a vela, testimonianza della sua più antica origine. In epoca medioevale doveva essere funzionante il palazzo comunale, in parte visibile sul lato nord del castello.
