> In the village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina (Umbria).The Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta was built in the 16th century, expanding the shapes of a pre-existing church, of which we have a historical memory since the 11th century. Dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, patron of the community of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, it has a simple layout with a single nave and Renaissance forms, enriched by some Baroque additions, such as the high altar bearing the wooden effigy of the "Madonna del Monte" and the large wrought iron gate that gives access to the Bourbon Chapel, property of the noble family who ruled Monte Santa Maria Tiberina from 1250 to 1815. The Chapel was built in the year 1614 by order of the Marquis Giovanbattista Bourbon del Monte (known as "Battistone" ), a great condottiere who employed his resources to expand the church and the noble palaces of his family. This church is a sort of small treasure chest of historical-artistic and archaeological treasures: of great importance is the modern high altar, whose base is a Roman sarcophagus in limestone (I-II century AD) and a beautiful frontal in sandstone dating back to the VII-VIII century. This bears bas-relief elements of Christological symbolism, such as the struggle between the dragon -symbol of evil, and the lion -symbol of Christ.

La Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta viene costruita nel XVI secolo ampliando le forme di una chiesa preesistente, della quale si ha memoria storica fin dal secolo XI. Dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta, patrona della comunità di Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, presenta un impianto semplice a navata singola e forme rinascimentali, arricchite da alcune aggiunte barocche, come l'altare maggiore che reca l'effigie lignea della "Madonna del Monte" e la grande cancellata in ferro battuto che da accesso alla Cappella Bourbon, proprietà della famiglia di marchesi che governarono Monte Santa Maria Tiberina dal 1250 al 1815. La Cappella venne eretta nell'anno 1614 per volontà del marchese Giovanbattista Bourbon del Monte (detto "Battistone"), grande condottiero che impiegò le sue risorse per ampliare la Pieve e i palazzi nobiliari del suo casato. Questa chiesa è una sorta di piccolo scrigno di tesori storico-artistici ed archeologici: di notevole importanza sono l'altare maggiore moderno, la cui base è costituita da un sarcofago romano in pietra calcarea (I-II sec. d.C.) ed un bel paliotto in arenaria risalente all'epoca longobarda (VII-VIII sec.). Questo reca in bassorilievo elementi di simbologia cristologica, quali la lotta tra il dragone - simbolo del male, e il leone -simbolo del Cristo.
