The ancient writing desks are born in medieval times; it will be the Renaissance and the culture of Humanism that will give way to a profound development of art and letters, giving birth to the idea of ​​a real reading and writing furniture.
These objects, already present in Spain, in the late Gothic age, will have great success in Europe especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, transforming themselves from a mobile piece of furniture into fixed furniture within the dwellings.
The desk preserved in our museum is made of wood, covered in leather and painted with plant motifs. It was made in Italy between the end of the fifteenth and the beginning of the sixteenth centuries.
It hides nine small drawers behind the door, the second of which on the right hides a secret accessible only from the central drawer.

Gli antichi scrittoi nascono in epoca medievale; sarà il Rinascimento e la cultura dell’Umanesimo che daranno il via ad un profondo sviluppo dell’arte e delle lettere, facendo nascere l'idea di un vero e proprio mobile da lettura e scrittura.
Tali oggetti, già presenti in Spagna, in età tardogotica, avranno ampia fortuna in Europa soprattutto nel XVI e nel XVII secolo, trasformandosi da mobile da viaggio in arredo fisso all'interno delle dimore.
Lo scrittoio conservato nel nostro Museo è in legno, rivestito in cuoio e dipinto a motivi vegetali. Fu realizzato in Italia tra la fine del XV e l’inizio del XVI secolo.
Esso cela dietro il battente nove piccoli cassetti di cui il secondo sulla destra nasconde un segreto accessibile solo dal cassettino centrale.
