Doctor of the Church, of a wealthy Christian family, Girolamo came to Rome at a very young age, to carry out excellent studies in grammar and rhetoric. Here, under valiant masters, he inclined the letters with an attitude and a passion that characterized his asceticism and made him the symbol of Christian humanism.
A tireless writer, a great scholar and an excellent translator, he is responsible for the Latin Vulgate of the Bible.

Dottore della Chiesa, di un'agiata famiglia cristiana, Girolamo venne a Roma giovanissimo, per compiervi eccellenti studî di grammatica e retorica. Qui, sotto maestri valenti, inclinò le lettere con un atteggiamento e una passione che hanno caratterizzato il suo ascetismo e hanno fatto di lui il simbolo dell'umanesimo cristiano.
Scrittore infaticabile, grande erudito e ottimo traduttore, a lui si deve la Vulgata in latino della Bibbia.
