> The painting was made by Gentile da Fabriano for the church of San Domenico in Perugia within the first decade of the fifteenth century, when the painter from the Marche had his own workshop in Venice.
The table, representing the Madonna and Child Enthroned surrounded by angels, has undergone numerous tampering, such as the round cut in the upper part and the trimming along the sides, which have compromised its original shape and dimensions.
Gentile condenses into this work the characterizing aspects of flowery Gothic, as evidenced by the sinuous course of the hem of the garment, the dense and overabundant falling of the drapery and the taste for minute details and for the analytical description of the elements of nature.
The workmanship of the metal surfaces is extraordinary for its quality and complexity: the angels above owe their ethereal substance to the fact of being granites over gold, while the Virgin's dress is painted directly on the silver lamina, where the effects of light-dark are obtained through veils of more or less opaque color.

> Il dipinto fu realizzato da Gentile da Fabriano per la chiesa di San Domenico a Perugia entro il primo decennio del Quattrocento, quando il pittore marchigiano aveva la propria bottega a Venezia. La tavola, rappresentante la Madonna con il Bambino in trono circondata da angeli, ha subito numerose manomissioni, come il taglio a tutto sesto nella parte superiore e la rifilatura lungo i lati, che ne hanno compromesso la forma e le dimensioni originarie.
Gentile condensa in quest’opera gli aspetti caratterizzanti del gotico fiorito, come dimostrano l’andamento sinuoso dell’orlo della veste, il ricadere fitto e sovrabbondante del panneggio e il gusto per i dettagli minuti e per la descrizione analitica degli elementi della natura.
Straordinaria, per qualità e complessità, è la lavorazione delle superfici metalliche: gli angeli in alto devono la loro sostanza eterea al fatto di essere graniti sull'oro, mentre la veste della Vergine è dipinta direttamente sulla lamina d’argento, dove gli effetti di chiaroscuro sono ottenuti attraverso velature di colore più o meno coprenti.
