> In 1871, in the countryside of Chiusi, a vase was found with the oldest representation of Penelope on ceramics (4th century BC), sitting in front of a loom. Therefore, the vase also preserves one of the most precise depictions of a vertical loom, also known as a "weight loom" because, in fact, to keep the warp threads taut were weights (in modern looms, this function is carried out from the subbio).
Among the findings of Urvinum Hortense there are also terracotta loom weights, like these in the photo. In the museum they are set up in the part dedicated to the "daily life" of the town hall, or we could say the daily life of the woman, being the purely female activity.

> Nel 1871, nelle campagne di Chiusi, viene rinvenuto un vaso con la più antica raffigurazione di Penelope su ceramica (IV secolo a.C.), seduta davanti ad un telaio. Il vaso conserva, quindi, anche una delle raffigurazioni più precise di un telaio verticale, noto anche come “telaio a pesi” perché, appunto, a tenere in tensione i fili dell’ordito erano dei pesi (nei telai moderni, questa funzione è svolta dal subbio).
Tra i rinvenimenti di Urvinum Hortense ci sono anche dei pesi da telaio in terracotta, come questi nella foto. Nel museo sono allestiti nella parte dedicata alla "vita quotidiana" del municipio, o potremmo dire la vita quotidiana della donna, essendo l'attività prettamente femminile.
