Cesare Augusto Detti (Spoleto - Umbria, 1847 - Paris, 1914), after graduating from the Academy in 1866, traveled extensively, absorbing new landscapes, new cities and new ideas, focusing on historical genre painting.

He was very successful in Paris for his technical virtuosity in representing faces, silks, velvets, costumed portraits (and sometimes feelings).
At the height of his artistic success, he was commissioned to illustrate two novels by Walter Scott. It is not surprising that this task was entrusted to him, because his skill in depicting the details of the costumes of historical eras was widely known and as suitable as possible to illustrate these English romantic works.

This post is dedicated to one of his very refined portraits of women, “Portrait de femme au chapeau”, kept in an American private collection.

Cesare Augusto Detti (Spoleto – Umbria, 1847 – Parigi, 1914), dopo la laurea in Accademia nel 1866, viaggiò intensamente, assorbendo nuovi paesaggi, nuove città e nuove idee, focalizzandosi sulla pittura di genere storico.

Ebbe grande successo a Parigi per il suo virtuosismo tecnico nel rappresentare volti, sete, velluti, ritratti in costume (e qualche volta i sentimenti).
All’apice del suo successo artistico, fu incaricato di illustrare due romanzi di Walter Scott. Non sorprende che questo compito sia stato affidato proprio a lui, perché la sua abilità nella raffigurazione dei dettagli dei costumi di epoche storiche era ampiamente conosciuta e quanto più possibile adatta per illustrare queste opere romantiche inglesi.

Questo post è dedicato ad uno dei suoi raffinatissimi ritratti di donna, “Portrait de femme au chapeau”, custodito in una collezione privata americana.
