According to the great Federico Zeri the young man of the beautiful portrait could be the Marquis Giovan Pietro Bufalini, a member of one of the oldest and most powerful families of Città di Castello (Perugia) since the early years of the 1400s. The painting (tempera on board; 37 x 26.8 cm) was executed by Pinturicchio around 1490.
After centuries of oblivion, the work reappeared at the end of the 1800s in the Friedsam Collection of New York (United States of America) before moving on to the "Brooklyn Museum of Art", also in New York, where it is currently kept .

Secondo il grande Federico Zeri il giovane uomo del bel ritratto potrebbe essere il Marchese Giovan Pietro Bufalini, membro di una delle famiglie più antiche e potenti di Città di Castello (Perugia) fin dai primi anni del 1400. Il dipinto (tempera su tavola; 37 x 26.8 cm) è stato eseguito dal Pinturicchio intorno al 1490. Dopo secoli di oblio l’opera riapparve a fine 1800 nella Collezione Friedsam di New York (Stati Uniti d'America) per poi passare, poco dopo il 1930, nel “Brooklyn Museum of Art”, sempre di New York, dove è attualmente custodita.
