> This is the beautiful Annunciation that can be admired at the entrance of our Museum.
Dated between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it was created by the workshop of Carlo Maratta and replicates a work of this famous artist, preserved in Palazzo Corsini, in a depot of the National Gallery of Ancient Art in Rome.
Roman painting between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was dominated by the contrast between classicism and baroque but Maratta succeeded in the difficult task of reconciling the two opposing tendencies, in this work in fact shows off his talents as a great portraitist attentive to the refinement of color, representing the young Maria absorbed in reading the sacred texts still unaware of the happy announcement that the Angel is about to bring them. In fact we see him coming behind an open curtain that also reveals a landscape in the distance, while he indicates it almost to ask for confirmation that it is really her.

Datata tra il XVII e XVIII secolo, è stata realizzata dalla bottega di Carlo Maratta e replica proprio un’opera di questo celebre artista, conservata a Palazzo Corsini, in un deposito della Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica di Roma.
La pittura romana tra Seicento e Settecento era dominata dal contrasto tra classicismo e barocco ma Maratta riuscì nel difficile compito di conciliare le due opposte tendenze, in quest’opera infatti sfoggia le sue doti da grande ritrattista attento alle raffinatezze del colore, rappresentando la giovane Maria assorta nella lettura dei testi Sacri ancora ignara del lieto annuncio che l’Angelo sta per portarle. Lo scorgiamo infatti arrivare dietro una tenda aperta che lascia intravedere anche un paesaggio in lontananza, mentre la indica quasi per chiedere conferma che sia proprio lei.
