Spello combines its medieval features, such as winding alleys and ancient stone houses, with several testimonies of the Roman era, such as the town walls and the still well preserved doors, the remains of the theatre, the amphitheatre and of the therms opened along this route. The village is still surrounded by walls, erected in 1360 by incorporating part of the Roman city walls and three splendid gates: the Consular gate (first c. BC), the Urbica gate (or St. Ventura gate) and the Venus gate of Augustan age, built as a triumphal arch, flanked by two dodecagonal plant towers, so called of Properzio.

Spello unisce al suo carattere medievale, con vicoli tortuosi e antiche case in pietra, numerose testimonianze di epoca romana, come la cinta muraria, lungo il cui tracciato si aprivano le porte ancora ben conservate, i resti del teatro, dell'anfiteatro e delle terme. L'abitato è ancora circondato da mura, erette nel 1360 inglobando parte della cinta romana e tre splendide porte: porta Consolare (I secolo a.C.), la porta Urbica (o porta San Ventura) e la porta Venere di età augustea, costruita a foggia di arco trionfale, con ai lati le due torri cosiddette di Properzio a pianta dodecagonale.
