Perched on a rock, fall on the wide plain of the river Nera, the castle of Arrone was built between the eleventh and twelfth century by the will of the feudal lords of the Arroni family to protect the communication routes that connected the Valnerina with the reactor. Even today the life of the village takes place inside the narrow alleys of the medieval quarter ("the Earth") where there is an atmosphere of peace and protection punctuated by the hands of the great clock that stands on the tower.
The original and therefore more ancient part of the built-up area develops on the top of the rocky spur where the Arroni, the first feudal lords of the area, built the fortress, the towers and the mighty walls. At the top of the village is the elongated square that connects the quadrilateral tower to the church of San Giovanni, ancient pieve of the village that houses an interesting cycle of frescoes of the fifteenth century.

Arroccato sopra uno scoglio, precipite sull'ampia pianura del fiume Nera, il castello di Arrone fu edificato tra l’XI e il XII secolo per volontà dei feudatari della famiglia degli Arroni a protezione delle vie di comunicazione che collegavano la Valnerina con il reatino. Ancora oggi la vita del paese si svolge all'interno degli stretti vicoli del quartiere medievale (“la Terra”) dove si respira un’atmosfera di pace e protezione scandita dalle lancette del grande orologio che campeggia sulla torre.
La parte originaria e quindi più antica dell’abitato si sviluppa sulla sommità dello sperone roccioso dove gli Arroni, primi feudatari del luogo, edificarono la rocca, le torri e le possenti mura di cinta. Nella sommità del borgo si trova la piazza di forma allungata che collega la torre quadrilatera alla chiesa di San Giovanni antica pieve del borgo che custodisce un interessante ciclo di affreschi del XV secolo.
