> The Coronation of the Virgin of Narni is a tempera painting on wood (330x230 cm) by Domenico Ghirlandaio, datable to around 1486 and preserved in the Eroli Museum in Narni. Safe is the intervention of workshop help in the pictorial drafting even if it is difficult to attribute the single parts to this or that personality.

The altarpiece was painted in Florence in Ghirlandaio's workshop and later sent to Umbria. Commissioned by Berardo Eroli, cardinal and humanist who was familiar with the Florentine environment, for the church of the Franciscan convent of San Girolamo, near Narni. Placed on the high altar, the table was illuminated only by the light filtering from the rosette of the façade and at certain times of the year the sun's rays directly hit the gold disk placed between the Virgin and the Christ, creating a particular radial effect . The work became a pilgrimage destination, until it was moved to the town hall in 1871.

Sicuro è l'intervento di aiuti di bottega nella stesura pittorica anche se è difficile attribuire le singole parti a questa o quella personalità.

La pala venne dipinta a Firenze nella bottega di Ghirlandaio e successivamente spedita in Umbria. Commissionata da Berardo Eroli, cardinale e umanista che aveva familiarità con l'ambiente fiorentino, per la chiesa del convento francescano di san Girolamo, nei pressi di Narni. Collocata sull'altare maggiore, la tavola era illuminata solo dalla luce filtrante dal rosone della facciata [1], e in determinati momenti dell'anno i raggi del sole colpivano direttamente il disco d'oro posto tra la Vergine e il Cristo, creando un particolare effetto a raggiera. L'opera divenne meta di pellegrinaggio, fino al trasferimento nella sede del comune nel 1871.
