Bernardino di Betto (The Pinturicchio), "Adoration of the Child" (panel, cm 45.4 × 34.6, datable around 1495).

On a hilly background punctuated by trees highlighted by gilding, great attention is poured into the precious decoration of the painting, with the golden embroidery of the garments (like the star on the mantle of Mary, a typical attribute that reminded the Nativity comet). The goldfinch that Jesus Child shakes with his hand is the symbol of his future Passion.

The painting appears for the first time in the Contini Bonacossi collection in Florence which, in 1938, sold it to the S.H. Collection. Kress in New York, who, in turn, surrenders it, in 1941, to the National Gallery of Art in Washington. In 1952 the painting became part of the S.H. Collection Kress who, in the same year, gives it to the Honolulu Academy of Arts (Hawaii, United States of America), where he is currently guarded.

Su uno sfondo collinare punteggiato da alberelli lumeggiati da dorature, grande attenzione è riversata nella decorazione preziosa del dipinto, con i ricami dorati delle vesti (come la stella sul manto di Maria, tipico attributo che ricordava la cometa della Natività). Il cardellino che Gesù Bambino stringe con la mano è il simbolo della sua futura Passione.

Il dipinto compare per la prima volta nella collezione Contini Bonacossi di Firenze) che, nel 1938 lo vende alla Collezione S.H. Kress di New York) che, a sua volta, lo cede, nel 1941, alla National Gallery of Art di Washington. Nel 1952 il dipinto torna a far parte della Collezione S.H. Kress che, nello stesso anno, lo cede alla Honolulu Academy of Arts (Hawaii, Stati Uniti d'America), dove attualmente è custodito.
