> POLINO is the highest and smallest municipality in the province of Terni. It is located at the top of the valley of the "Fosso di Rosciano" and in the past has played a controlling role on the road that leads to Leonessa. The ancient village is dominated by a 16th century fortress and protected by a double wall. Historically it was a fortified border town between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal State and thanks to the latter it is worth mentioning the opening of the mine in 1760 where iron, silver and gold were extracted. Among the streets of the country today you can still perceive the rhythms of a life marked by gestures and times that betray an ancient history far from the life of the valley.

POLINO è il comune più alto della provincia di Terni, si trova all'apice della valle del fosso di Rosciano, nel passato ha svolto una funzione di controllo sulla via che conduce a Leonessa. Il borgo antico è sovrastato da una rocca cinquecentesca e protetto da una doppia cinta muraria. Storicamente era un centro fortificato di frontiera tra il Regno di Napoli e lo Stato Pontificio, e grazie a quest’ultimo si ricorda l’apertura della miniera nel 1760 dove si estraeva ferro, argento e oro. Tra le vie del paese ancora oggi si possono percepire i ritmi di una vita scandita da gesti e tempi che tradiscono una storia secolare lontana dalla vita del fondovalle.
