Towards the end of 1861 and until the beginning of 1862 the virgin appeared to Federico (Righetto) Cionchi (1857-1932) near the ruins of the ancient church of San Bartolomeo.

The temple was of modest size, with traces of a Marian fresco dating back to 1520. Over the years, the chapel had been neglected little by little; around 1815 the roof of the church collapsed: from that year it was left in the most complete abandonment. The chapel became a pile of ruins covered with brambles and brushwood; the apse remained almost intact, with the image of the Madonna and Child Jesus, around which the ivy had formed a green frame. Since 1859, rumors of alleged apparitions or melodious songs had begun to circulate, seen or heard around the ruined chapel. In 1860 a pious woman, Saint Bonifazi, who died shortly afterwards because she was very ill, repeated that Our Lady wanted to be honored in the small church, which therefore had to be restored.

Righetto, a child of almost 5 years, son of poor peasants who lived not far from the place, wandering around the chapel one day, he heard himself called by name. He instinctively entered the chapel and saw that there was a very beautiful Lady, dressed in red; he approached him and she took him by the right hand, caressing him.

Among the many things that she told him, the seer remembers only this tender warning: "Righetto, be good".

The little sister Rosa, present, saw nothing. The mother of the child, which he informed of the fact, at first did not notice. Righetto, however, almost daily, went to "see the Madonna". The neighbor came to know that she knew her confidences from her mother. The news of the visions spread immediately and was linked to the assertions of Saint Bonifazi. The opinions were divided and rumors were born. But in March 1862, the first of a long series of miracles occurred, which credited the story of the seer: Giovanni Castellani, a young consumptive who struggled with death, healed as soon as he set foot in the temple. The church was rebuilt and inaugurated in 1881. Righetto at 20 years entered as a lay brother in the Congregation of the Somaschi fathers, remaining there until his death.

Verso la fine del 1861 e sino agli inizi del 1862 la vergine apparve a Federico (Righetto) Cionchi (1857-1932) presso i ruderi dell'antica chiesa di san Bartolomeo. Il tempio era di modeste dimensioni, con tracce di un affresco mariano risalente al 1520. Col passare degli anni, la cappella era stata a poco a poco trascurata; intorno al 1815 il tetto della chiesa crollò: da quell'anno fu lasciata nel più completo abbandono. La cappella divenne un cumulo di ruderi ricoperti di rovi e di sterpaglia; restò quasi intatta l'abside, con l'immagine della Madonna e di Gesù Bambino, intorno a cui l'edera aveva formato una cornice di verde. Fin dal 1859 erano incominciate a circolare voci di presunte apparizioni o di canti melodiosi, visti o uditi intorno alla diroccata cappella. Nel 1860 una pia donna, Santa Bonifazi, morta poco dopo poiché molto ammalata, ripeté che la Madonna voleva essere onorata nella piccola chiesa, che perciò doveva essere restaurata.

Righetto, un bimbo di quasi 5 anni, figlio di poveri contadini che abitavano poco distante dal luogo, aggirandosi un giorno nei dintorni della cappella, si sentì chiamare per nome. Entrò istintivamente nella cappella e vide che c'era una Signora molto bella, vestita di rosso; gli si accostò e lei lo prese per la mano destra, accarezzandolo.

Tra le tante cose che gli disse, il veggente ricorda solo questo tenero avvertimento: "Righetto, sii buono".

La sorellina Rosa, presente, non vide nulla. La madre del piccolo, da lui messa al corrente del fatto, all'inizio non vi fece caso. Righetto però, quasi quotidianamente, si recava a "vedere la Madonna". Se ne accorse la vicina, che seppe dalla madre del piccolo le sue confidenze. La notizia delle visioni si sparse immediatamente e venne collegata alle affermazioni di santa Bonifazi. I pareri furono discordi e nacquero dicerie. Ma nel marzo del 1862 avvenne il primo di una lunga serie di miracoli che accreditarono il racconto del veggente: Giovanni Castellani, un giovane tisico che lottava con la morte, guarì non appena mise piede nel tempietto. La chiesa fu ricostruita ed inaugurata nel 1881. Righetto a 20 anni entrò come fratello laico nella Congregazione dei padri somaschi, rimanendovi sino alla morte.
