> Montefranco is considered the "balcony of the Valnerina ternana". It stands on a rocky spur and acts as a watershed between the Valnerina and the Valley of Tescino's river. For the old castle of Bufone remain "Porta Franca" and "Porta Spoletina" restored and visible in their entirety. It was founded in the thirteenth century by exiles of the nearby Arrone, who subtracted from the obligations of their castle of origin settled in this free land, hence the name Montefranco. In 1444 San Bernardino da Siena passed through these lands, still remembered today in an evocative historical re-enactment. Del vecchio castello di Bufone restano Porta Franca e Porta Spoletina ristrutturate e visibili nella loro interezza. È stata fondata nel XIII secolo da esuli della vicina Arrone, che sottratti dagli obblighi del loro castello di origine si stabilirono in questa terra franca, da qui il nome Montefranco. Nel 1444 transitò per queste terre San Bernardino da Siena ancora oggi ricordato in una suggestiva rievocazione storica.
