Around 1500, Perugino painted a marvelous "Christ crowned with thorns" (oil on panel, 40.3 x 32.4 cm) where Jesus is shown at the moment when Pontius Pilate presents it to the crowd saying "Ecce Homo". The head of Jesus is mockingly crowned with thorns and the rope with which he was led there is well in sight.
The Christ crowned with thorns peers into the eyes the spectator of the painting with an expression that does not betray physical pain but compassion with those who intercept his gaze.

Of the painting, preserved in the National Gallery in London since 1862, the first owner is unknown, much less the path followed to arrive at the Collection of Sir William George Moore, an English general, who left it to the prestigious London gallery.

Nel 1500 circa, il Perugino dipinse un meraviglioso “Cristo coronato di spine“ (olio su tavola, 40.3 x 32.4 cm) dove Gesù è mostrato nel momento in cui Ponzio Pilato lo presenta alla folla dicendo “Ecce Homo”. Il capo di Gesù è beffardamente coronato di spine e la corda con cui è stato ivi condotto è ben in vista.
Il Cristo coronato di spine scruta fisso negli occhi lo spettatore del quadro con un'espressione che non tradisce dolore fisico ma compassione con chi intercetta il suo sguardo.

Del dipinto, dal 1862 conservato nella National Gallery di Londra, non si conosce il primo proprietario e men che meno il percorso seguito per approdare alla Collezione di Sir William George Moore, un generale inglese, che lo lasciò in eredità alla prestigiosa galleria londinese.
