The Chapel of the Transit. A few meters from the Porziuncola, on the right side, in the apse of the Basilica there is the Chapel of the Transit. It was the infirmary of the primitive convent, one of the huts scattered in the woods built by the Friars to live there. St. Francis spent here the last hours of his earthly life and died there making himself deposed on the bare earth on the evening of October 3, 1226.

La cappella del Transito. A pochi metri dalla Porziuncola, sul lato destro, nell'abside della Basilica vi è la Cappella del Transito. Era l'infermeria del primitivo convento, una delle capanne sparse nel bosco costruite dai Frati per abitarvi. San Francesco trascorse qui le ultime ore della sua vita terrena e vi morì facendosi deporre sulla nuda terra la sera del 3 ottobre 1226.
