- THE HISTORY
The history of Hotel Fonte Cesia is linked to the history of the noble palace in which it is hosted, that back in the 15th Century belonged to the noble family Atti, who ruled in Todi.
The presence of this noble family in the palace is proved by the inscription “VENTVRINVS APTVS”, This inscription is still visible on the architrave of the fireplace in one of the rooms of the Hotel Fonte Cesia. As a matter of fact, Venturino of the family Atti was a famous “dominus”, (lord), who became prior in 1523.
Two years later, on December 14th 1525, he received the order to retake the towns of Massa Martana and Acquasparta, which wanted to free themselves from the supremacy of Todi. In Massa Martana, in the houses next to the Church of Saints Terenzio and Fidenzio, you can see the stems of the Atti family with the inscription: VENTVRINUS APTUS. MDXXIII. The Atti family ruled in Todi until 1550 when the town was completely destroyed by a member of the Cesi family. From then on, the Cesi family took control of the political, cultural and institutional life of the town. Among the exponents of the Cesi family, Angelo played a prominent part for Todi. He contributed in the transformation of the architecture of the town.
Thanks to Angelo Cesi many Renaissance buildings, which we can still admire today, have been constructed. Between 1600 and 1606 he built the impressive Fonte Cesia (Cesia Fountain), an ancient water supply. The Fontain where the water coming from the overhanging “Colle della Rocca” (defence hill), was channelled. In 1980, Frustagatti’s family acquired and solidly meticulously renovated the building, making it become our charming Hotel Fonte Cesia.

- LA STORIA
L’Hotel Fonte Cesia è anche una location ideale per eventi, mostre, meeting, presentazioni, concerti e matrimoni civili intimi ed esclusivi. La sala convegni è ospitata nella splendida cornice di quella che fu la chiesa di San Benedetto, risalente al XIII secolo.
La storia dell’Hotel Fonte Cesia è legata a quella dell’antico palazzo nobiliare del centro storico di Todi che lo ospita, risalente ad epoca medievale.
Un’accurata ricostruzione presso l’archivio storico comunale ha permesso di appurare che nel XIV secolo la proprietà del palazzo sia attribuita alla famiglia guelfa degli Atti, nobile e potente dominatrice della città di Todi.
“VENTVRINVS APTVS”
La tesi della presenza di questa nobile famiglia nell’edificio è corroborata dal ritrovamento della scritta “VENTVRINVS APTVS” sull’architrave del camino della camera intitolata alla casata.
“Fra gli Atteschi di Todi, che nel XIV sec. vennero in rinomanza, [spicca, emerge] Venturino di Casa Atti, il quale salì in gran fama.
Codesto dominus Venturinus fu priore nel 1523: e poscia (14 Dic. 1525) fu inviato a ricuperare Massa e Acquasparta, che volevano togliersi dalla suggezzione di Todi. A Massa Martana, nelle abitazioni vicine alla chiesa dei SS. Terenzio e Fidenzio, si veggono ancora stemmi degli ATTI e la iscrizione: VENTVRINVS APTVS. La famiglia degli Atti sarà la principale di Todi fino al 1550, quando venne completamente distrutta ad opera di un esponente della famiglia Cesi. Da questo momento in poi la città cedette il comando politico, culturale e istituzionale alla famiglia Cesi. Per Todi il personaggio più importante tra i Cesi fu il caro Angelo, che le portò un profondo rinnovamento urbanistico e un’intima trasformazione.
A lui si deve la costruzione del maggior numero dei palazzi rinascimentali ancor oggi presenti nel centro storico di Todi. Tra il 1600 e il 1606, Angelo Cesi fece erigere l’imponente Fonte Cesia, luogo di rifornimento idrico, dove venivano convogliate le acque provenienti dal sovrastante Colle della Rocca.
Nel 1980 la famiglia Frustagatti lo ha acquistato e accuratamente e solidamente restaurato. Oggi trasformato nell’Hotel Fonte Cesia gestito dalle sorelle Anna e Nunzia, affiancate da un insostituibile staff qualificato di professionisti dell’ospitalità.
