It stands suspended between sky and ground, on a spur of limestone rock fortified by populations of Umbrian-Sabine origin that already five centuries before Christ housed a small town, Clusiolum, of which remains imposing remains, including the podium of an ancient temple .
The church has a Romanesque imprint, probably dating back to the 12th century, and was erected by Benedictine monks along with a convent of which nothing remains, perhaps precisely to Christianize a place where pagan cults have long been alive.
Pope Nicholas V granted to Angelo Geraldini of Amelia the right to the monastery of Sant'Erasmo di Cesi.
In his honor the frescoes of the Church of Sant'Erasmo in Cesi were painted by Giovanni Fiorentino.

Sorge sospesa tra cielo e terra, su uno sperone di roccia calcarea fortificato da popolazioni di origine umbro-sabina che già cinque secoli prima di Cristo ospitava una piccola cittadina, Clusiolum, di cui rimangono imponenti resti, tra cui il podio di un antico tempio.
La chiesa ha un’impronta romanica, risale probabilmente al XII secolo, e fu eretta da monaci benedettini insieme ad un convento di cui più nulla rimane, forse proprio per cristianizzare un luogo in cui a lungo erano rimasti in vita culti pagani.
Il papa Niccolò V concesse ad Angelo Geraldini di Amelia il diritto sul monastero di Sant’Erasmo di Cesi.
In suo onore furono dipinti da Giovanni Fiorentino gli affreschi della Chiesa di Sant’Erasmo in Cesi.
