> UMBRIA'S ARTWORK AROUND THE WORLD

The "Virgin and Child with Saint Jerome", is a beautiful painting made with oil on a panel technique around 1475, measuring 52.7 x 39 cm., And is one of the most appreciated works of Pinturicchio. This work too certainly belongs to the cycle of activities carried out in the important building site of the San Bernardino oratory in Perugia, where the painter was trained. The original destination of the table is unknown, which, due to its small size, is probably a private destination. Also in this work we can appreciate the clear focus of the thousand elegant details, curious and pleasant.
This painting is no longer present in Perugia or in Umbria, but, after a long series of transfers of ownership between private collectors, since 1920 it is exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, one of the most important museums in the United States of America. The first of the private collectors who came into possession of this work, around 1907, and of which we have news, is Mr. Bacchettoni, at the time the mayor of San Gemini (Terni).

La “Vergine e Bambino con San Girolamo”, è uno splendido dipinto realizzato con tecnica a olio su tavola intorno al 1475, misura 52.7 x 39 cm., ed è una delle più apprezzate opere del Pinturicchio. Anche questo lavoro appartiene sicuramente al ciclo delle attività svolte nell’importante cantiere dell’oratorio di San Bernardino a Perugia, dove il pittore si è formato. È sconosciuta la destinazione originaria della tavola che, per le ridotte dimensioni, è di probabile destinazione privata. Anche in questa opera si può apprezzare la nitida messa a fuoco dei mille particolari eleganti, curiosi e piacevoli.
Questo dipinto non è più né a Perugia né in Umbria, ma, dopo una lunga serie di passaggi di proprietà tra collezionisti privati, dal 1920 è esposto al Museum of Fine Arts di Boston, uno dei più importanti musei degli Stati Uniti d'America. Il primo dei collezionisti privati entrato in possesso di quest’opera, intorno al 1907, e di cui si ha notizia, è il Signor Bacchettoni, all'epoca sindaco di San Gemini (Terni).
