> Five hundred years ago the hill called Selva was destined to pastoralism and not very inhabited. Because of its poetic and evocative beauty, it is very likely that the youth of these countries went there with the purpose of having fun among wine orgies.

Where the written history ends, the oral tradition begins that brings us back to 31 May 1536 when the Blessed Virgin appeared to the deaf-mute shepherd Antonio de Antoni, from Gardone Valtrompia, who grazed the flock of Bonomo Bonomi. The shepherd with the rosary crown in his hand saw before his eyes an extremely bright star, more than the Sun, in the center of which stood the Virgin and Child in her arms. She invited him to induce the local populations to erect a shrine in his name. To the uncertainty of the man, Maria assured that she would repay with graces and prodigies her request.

Recovered from the vision and strong of his faith, the shepherd went to the regents of the three countries to announce the good news. The first prodigy was precisely the acquisition of the gift of speech and hearing from de Antoni.

In the year of the appearance, was laid out the foundations of the new Church, for the advancement of which he came forward with apostolic liberality, granting indulgences, Paul III in the second year of his pontificate ".

> Cinquecento anni fa il poggio chiamato Selva era destinato alla pastorizia e poco abitato. A motivo della sua bellezza poetica e suggestiva, è molto probabile che la gioventù di questi paesi vi si recasse con lo scopo di divertirsi tra orge di vino ed altro.

Dove finisce la storia scritta comincia la tradizione orale che ci riporta al 31 Maggio 1536 quando la Beata Vergine apparve al sordomuto pastore Antonio de Antoni, di Gardone Valtrompia, che pascolava il gregge di Bonomo Bonomi. Il pastore con la corona del rosario in mano vide d’innanzi ai suoi occhi una stella estremamente lucente, più del Sole, al centro della quale stava la Vergine col Bambino fra le braccia. Ella lo invitò ad indurre le popolazioni del luogo ad erigere un Santuario in suo nome. All'incertezza dell’uomo, Maria assicurò che avrebbe ripagato con grazie e prodigi la propria richiesta.

Ripresosi dalla visione e forte della sua Fede, il pastore si recò presso i reggenti dei tre paesi ad annunziare la buona novella. Il primo prodigio fu per l’appunto l’acquisizione del dono di parola ed udito da parte del de Antoni.

Nell'anno stesso della verginale comparsa disposero le fondamenta della nuova Chiesa, per l’avanzamento della quale accorse con apostolica liberalità, concedendo indulgenze, Paolo III nell'anno secondo del suo pontificato”.
