St. Luca is the only one, among the Evangelists, to tell the episode of the Annunciation (Luca I, 26-37); he is also the patron of the Notaries, who commissioned this work to Bonfigli for their Perugian seat, and the notaries himself represented the instruments: the pen in his right hand and the scraper for the corrections in the left, the draft for the draft and the code for the definitive drafting.

San Luca è l'unico, tra gli Evangelisti, a raccontare l'episodio dell'Annunciazione (Luca I, 26-37); è anche il patrono dei Notai, che commissionarono quest'opera a Bonfigli per la loro sede perugina e proprio dei notai rappresenta gli strumenti: la penna nella mano destra e il raschietto per le correzioni nella sinistra, il bastardello per la brutta copia e il codice per la stesura definitiva.
