> La Pala Colonna is an oil painting on wood (242x169.5 cm) by Raffaello Sanzio, dating back to about 1503-1505, painted as an altarpiece for the Franciscan convent of Sant'Antonio in Perugia.
The main table shows the Madonna and Child, Saint John and Saints Peter, Catherine of Alexandria, Margaret (or Cecilia) and Paul, surmounted by a lunette with the Eternal between two angels. These two principal parts were authorized to be sold in 1677, ending up in the properties of Antonio Bigazzini of Perugia. Passed in the collections of the Colonna princes in Rome, and in those of Francesco I of the two Sicilies, they were transferred to Spain in 1861 by Francesco II. Here, in 1901, he bought them Pierpont Morgan, who then left them at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where they are now exhibited.
The predella, on the other hand, had already been sold to Christina of Sweden in 1663 and, after passing through various collections, was found in that of the Duke of Orleans, dispersing when it was sold. Today at least three compartments are known: Oration in the Garden, New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Pietà, Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; Went to Calvary, London, National Gallery.
Among the scenes depicted, or at the ends, there were saints in full figure, of whom two pieces are known: St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Anthony of Padua, both preserved in Dulwich (London), Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Queste due parti principali vennero autorizzate ad essere cedute nel 1677, finendo nelle proprietà di Antonio Bigazzini di Perugia. Passate nelle raccolte dei principi Colonna a Roma, e in quelle di Francesco I delle due Sicilie, vennero trasferite in Spagna nel 1861 da Francesco II. Qui, nel 1901 le acquistò Pierpont Morgan, che poi le lasciò al Metropolitan Museum di New York, ove ora sono esposte.
La predella invece era già stata ceduta nel 1663 a Cristina di Svezia e, dopo essere passata per varie collezioni, si trovò in quella del duca d'Orleans, disperdendosi quando venne venduta. Tra le scene figurate, o alle estremità, dovevano trovarsi dei santi a tutta figura, dei quali si conoscono due pezzi: San Francesco d'Assisi, e Sant'Antonio da Padova, entrambi conservati a Dulwich (Londra), Dulwich Picture Gallery.
