Descendant of a family of potters, Zulimo Aretini, born in Monte San Savino in the province of Arezzo in 1884, makes his apprenticeship at the family furnace in Borgo Fonte, where he learns the secrets of the decoration with graffito, or sgraffio, typical of ceramics umbro-aretine of the sixteenth century and that he interprets in an absolutely modern and original way.
Successively completes his studies in Florence and Milan, at the Accademia di Brera.
Active at the "Fornaci di San Lorenzo" manufactory of Galileo Chini in 1909 and subsequently at the "Richard-Ginori" of Sesto Fiorentino and some other Sextesi factories including "Colonnata", "Carraresi" and "S.A.C.A.".
In 1914 he presented some ceramics produced in the family manufactory, "Federigo Aretini & Figli", at the Exposition of Castiglion Fiorentino
In 1918 he opened a small self-made factory called "Antica Bottega del Ceramista Aretini Zulimo" and among the collaborators of the manufacture he also inserted the young savino Giotto Giannoni.
Since 1920 he has also devoted himself to teaching ceramics and decorative techniques.
In 1925 he opened a shop in Arezzo and then in Fontevegge, in the province of Perugia where he founded the "Società Anonima Maioliche Zulimo Aretini".
During the 1920s he took part in numerous exhibitions (Pesaro, Turin, Livorno and Florence), enjoying success with the public and critics.
In these years the Biagio Lista ceramist Grottagliese collaborates with the company.
After leaving the Fontevegge factory, he opened a small ceramic factory in DERUTA which, in 1929, joined the "Italian Maioliche Artistiche Consortium" ("C.I.M.A."), commissioned by Biagio Biagiotti, also collaborating with the "Salamandra".
In 1939 Aretini left Deruta and moved to Torgiano where he founded the ceramic factory "Aretini Ceramiche", assisted by his son Galileo and Guido Carnesecchi.
In 1945, together with Bruno Papi and Alfredo Arrighetti, he founded the "A.R.S." manufactory,
In 1950 he founded, in Cameri near Novara, the ceramic manufacture "CASA", then he moved to Groppello Cairoli, in the province of Pavia, where he founded the "Aretini Zulimo & Clavio" and subsequently moved to Casteggio, in the province of Pavia. the "Florentine Ceramics".
During his ceramist career he participated in the Biennial of Monza and in several editions of the Milan Triennale.
In 1961 Zulimo Aretini moved to Rome where he died in 1965.

Discendente di una famiglia di ceramisti, Zulimo Aretini, nato a Monte San Savino in provincia di Arezzo nel 1884, fa il suo apprendistato presso la fornace di famiglia a Borgo Fonte, dove apprende i segreti del decoro a graffito, o sgraffio, tipico delle ceramiche umbro-aretine del Cinquecento e che lui interpreta in modo assolutamente moderno ed originale.
Succesivamente completa gli studi a Firenze e a Milano, all'Accademia di Brera.
Attivo presso la manifattura "Fornaci di San Lorenzo" di Galileo Chini nel 1909 e successivamente presso la "Richard-Ginori" di Sesto Fiorentino e alcune altre manifatture sestesi tra cui "Colonnata", "Carraresi" e "S.A.C.A.".
Nel 1914 presenta alcune ceramiche prodotte nella manifattura di famiglia, "Federigo Aretini & Figli", all'Esposizione di Castiglion Fiorentino
Nel 1918 apre una piccola manifattura in proprio, denominata "Antica Bottega del Ceramista Aretini Zulimo" e tra i collaboratori della manifattura inserisce anche il giovane savinese Giotto Giannoni.
Dal 1920 si dedica anche all'insegnamento delle tecniche ceramiche e decorative.
Nel 1925 apre una bottega ad Arezzo e successivamente a Fontevegge, in provincia di Perugia dove fonda la "Società Anonima Maioliche Zulimo Aretini".
Nel corso degli anni Venti partecipa a numerose esposizioni (Pesaro, Torino, Livorno e Firenze) riscuotendo successo di pubblico e critica.
In questi anni collabora con la ditta il ceramista grottagliese Biagio Lista.
Lasciata la fabbrica di Fontevegge apre una piccola manifattura ceramica a DERUTA che entra, nel 1929, a far parte del "Consorzio Italiano Maioliche Artistiche" ("C.I.M.A.") voluto e diretto da Biagio Biagiotti, collaborando anche con la "Salamandra".
Nel 1939 Aretini lascia Deruta e si trasferisce a Torgiano dove fonda la manifattura ceramica "Aretini Ceramiche", coadiuvato dal figlio Galileo e da Guido Carnesecchi.
Nel 1945 insieme a Bruno Papi e Alfredo Arrighetti fonda la manifattura "A.R.S.",
Nel 1950 fonda, a Cameri presso Novara, la manifattura ceramica "C.A.S.A", poi si trasferisce a Groppello Cairoli, in provincia di Pavia, dove fonda la "Aretini Zulimo & Clavio" e successivamente, spostatosi a Casteggio, in provincia di Pavia, fonda la "Ceramica Fiorentina".
Durante la sua carriera di ceramista partecipa alle Biennali di Monza e a diverse edizioni della Triennale di Milano.
Nel 1961 Zulimo Aretini si trasferisce a Roma dove muore nel 1965.
