> The splendid Abbey of Santa Croce in Sassovivo, one of the most famous and fascinating monuments in the territory of Foligno, is perched in an idyllic natural landscape, among woods of holm oaks and ancient olive trees, the Abbey, founded in the second half of the century. XI on the remains of a pre-existing fortified residence of the Monaldi, offers within its vast complex, important historical and artistic testimonies and striking architectural views: from the Church, in which fragments of fifteenth-century frescoes are preserved, to the Crypt of San Marone, a Syrian hermit -babilone lived in the fourth century, in the Loggia del Paradiso with fragments of probable monochrome frescoes by Giovanni di Corraduccio, at the splendid Romanic Cloister by the Roman master Pietro de Maria.
The visit will allow you to retrace the steps, historical, artistic and religious, which have allowed the birth and development of this beautiful jewel set in nature.
The crypt, the garden and the church will not be accessible to visitors at some hours of the day to allow the carrying out of religious services and moments of prayer.
Outside the abbey is the Abbot's promenade, a path that winds its way through the holm-oak, juniper and aleppo pine woods.
In May 2010 it was granted by UNESCO the recognition "PATRIMONY WITNESS OF A UNESCO CULTURE OF PEACE", has been affixed to a plaque and the recognition concerns not only the high historical-artistic and environmental quality, but the "vocation of peace" to which the Abbey has remained faithful since its foundation

> La splendida Abbazia di Santa Croce in Sassovivo, uno dei più insigni ed affascinanti monumenti nel territorio di Foligno, è arroccata in un idilliaco paesaggio naturale, tra boschi di lecci e olivi secolari, l’Abbazia, fondata nella seconda metà del sec. XI sui resti di una preesistente residenza fortificata dei Monaldi, offre all’interno del suo vasto complesso, importanti testimonianze storiche ed artistiche e suggestivi scorci architettonici: dalla Chiesa, in cui sono conservati frammenti di affreschi quattrocenteschi, alla Cripta di San Marone, eremita siro-babilonese vissuto nel IV secolo, alla Loggia del Paradiso con frammenti di affreschi monocromi probabile opera di Giovanni di Corraduccio, allo splendido Chiostro romanico opera del maestro romano Pietro de Maria.
La visita permetterà di ripercorrere le tappe, storiche, artistiche e religiose, che hanno permesso la nascita e lo sviluppo di questo splendido gioiello incastonato nella natura.
La cripta, il giardino e la Chiesa, non saranno accessibili ai visitatori in alcune ore della giornata per consentire lo svolgimento delle funzioni religiose e dei momenti di preghiera.
All'esterno dell'Abbazia la passeggiata dell'Abate, un sentiero che si dipana tra i boschi di leccio, ginepro e pino d'aleppo.
Nel maggio 2010 è stato accordato dall’Unesco il riconoscimento “PATRIMONIO TESTIMONE DI UNA CULTURA DI PACE UNESCO”, è stata apposta una lapide e il riconoscimento riguarda non solo l’alta qualità storico-artistica e ambientale, ma la”vocazione di pace” alla quale l’Abbazia è rimasta fedele dalla sua fondazione
