> The ancient name of Brufa was Castel Grifone and was inhabited at first by the Umbrians, then by the Etruscans and the Romans.
Geographically located at the northern limit of the territory of Torgiano, it is located on top of a hill (291 m s.l.m.) which acts as a watershed between the territories of Perugia, Assisi and Foligno, thus dominating the Media Valle del Tevere and Valle Umbra. The village and its appurtenances are occupied by 623 inhabitants (Istat data, 2001).
In 1387, the condottiere Giovanni Acuto, at the head of the papal troops of Urbano V, defeated the troops of Perugia, which thus lost the dominion of Umbria. In 1415, one of the illustrious prisoners in the dungeons of the castle of Brufa was Giovanni da Capestrano, who received the vision of St. Francis there.
In the second half of the seventeenth century, Giovanni Andrea Angelini Bontempi (musician, architect, painter, writer, engraver of precious stones and watchmaker), a man of culture and talent, bought buildings and land in the area. He died in 1705 and was buried in the church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, built in the castle. When the church was destroyed, the remains were transferred to the parish church of Sant'Ermete.
Brufa is a fraction of the municipality of Torgiano (PG).

Geograficamente situata al limite nord del territorio di Torgiano, si trova sulla sommità di una collina (291 m s.l.m.) che funge da spartiacque tra i territori di Perugia ed Assisi e Foligno, dominando così la Media Valle del Tevere e la Valle Umbra. Il borgo e le sue pertinenze sono occupate da 623 abitanti (dati Istat, 2001).
Nel 1387, il condottiero Giovanni Acuto, alla guida delle truppe papali di Urbano V, sconfigge le truppe di Perugia, che così perde il dominio dell'Umbria. Nel 1415, uno degli illustri prigionieri nelle segrete del castello di Brufa fu Giovanni da Capestrano, che ivi ricevette la visione di san Francesco.
Nella seconda metà del XVII secolo, Giovanni Andrea Angelini Bontempi (musicista, architetto, pittore, letterato, incisore di pietre preziose e fabbricante di orologi), uomo di cultura ed ingegno, acquistò fabbricati e terreni in zona. Morì nel 1705 e fu sepolto nella chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano, edificata nel castello. Alla distruzione della chiesina, le spoglie sono state trasferite nella chiesa parrocchiale di Sant'Ermete.
