The Glass Museum is the most important testimony of an ancient glass working tradition, which characterized Piegaro and its economy, from the thirteenth century. The building that currently houses the exhibition is the last building, inside the walls of the town, of Vetreria, which was abandoned in 1968, moving production to a new plant in the valley of the village, which still exists today.
The Museum, inaugurated on April 18, 2009, preserves the ancient appearance of the Vetreria and preserves many types of artefacts coming from the bent furnaces. Of the ancient melting furnace remains the base of the perimeter wall that encloses part of the last glass present inside it at the time of extinguishing, in 1968, when a large amount of incandescent glass, still present in the melting basin, was merged into a room located in the basement. Today the great glass pouring, with its intense emerald green, undoubtedly constitutes the most suggestive vision within the museum itinerary, effective "monument" to the centuries of productive history that have taken place in the heart of the village of Piegaro.

> LA STORIA
Il Museo del Vetro è la testimonianza più importante di un’antica tradizione di lavorazione del vetro, che ha caratterizzato Piegaro e la sua economia, dal XIII secolo. L’edificio che attualmente ospita l’esposizione è l’ultima sede, dentro le mura del paese, della Vetreria che nel 1968 venne dismessa, spostando la produzione in un impianto nuovo alla valle del paese, tuttora esistente.
Il Museo inaugurato il 18 aprile 2009 conserva l’antico aspetto della Vetreria e custodisce molteplici tipologie di manufatti usciti dalle fornaci piegaresi. Dell’antico forno fusorio resta la base del muro perimetrale che racchiude parte dell’ultimo vetro presente al suo interno al momento dello spegnimento, nel 1968, quando una grande quantità di vetro incandescente, ancora presente nel bacino di fusione, venne fatta confluire in una camera posta al piano seminterrato. Oggi la grande colata di vetro, con il suo intenso verde smeraldo, costituisce senza dubbio la visione più suggestiva all’interno del percorso museale, efficace ”monumento” ai secoli di storia produttiva che si sono succeduti nel cuore del borgo di Piegaro.
