Places and products of excellence in Umbria, Italy
> FOLIGNO city, Perugia. Night emotions. This is the typical district located along the Molini canal, which recalls the area's pre-eminent activity. The small craft and commercial shops represented, since the fifteenth century, the active centers of the economy of Foligno. Oil, wheat, paper, hemp were the most widespread goods of the time. The small shops were concentrated, in particular, along the ancient course of the river Topino, deviated to the north, outside the walls, in the mid-thirteenth century. Under the arches of the Conce there were wheat mills, cererie, soap-making, leather-goods, and dye-works, while in the upper rooms were dried leathers and tobacco leaves. In 1768, three tanneries were recalled in the city, while in 1813 one dates back to two tanneries, according to the documents of the historical archive. Out of the city in 1824 there are at least five.
